Chief of Staff - Office of the Commissioner

As FDA Chief of Staff, Jim Traficant oversees the day-to-day management and leads agency activities on major initiatives. In this role, Mr. Traficant provides strategic direction to senior leadership to advance FDA’s priorities and works closely with the leadership of FDA product centers and field operations to support the successful implementation of agency policies. He serves as the Commissioner’s direct liaison to other executive agencies and organizations and engages across government on critical public health initiatives. Mr. Traficant also plays a key role in legislative engagement, communications, and stakeholder outreach.
Mr. Traficant has decades of executive and operational leadership experience in multi-billion-dollar companies supporting government, commercial and international markets. He has created and led multiple businesses focused on unlocking the data in healthcare to enable better decision making for health systems, clinicians, patients, and caregivers.
Before joining FDA, Mr. Traficant was a Partner at Pinkston providing operational, programmatic, and strategic guidance to companies ranging from Fortune 500 to disruptive innovators.
From 2012 to 2020, he served as Managing Director, Federal Health at Accenture Federal Services. During that same period, Jim was President of ASM Research, an Accenture Federal Services subsidiary.
From 2001 to 2012, he held various leadership roles at L3Harris including President, Harris Healthcare Solutions which Jim created and scaled internationally.
Prior to L3Harris, he was Executive Vice President and on the Board of Directors for Exigent International.
In addition to Exigent, Mr. Traficant has served on boards for Cancer Treatment Services International, Kizen, and the first ever Johns Hopkins Medicine Joint Venture, Peake Healthcare, which Jim co-founded. In 2021, Mr. Traficant was inducted into the Federal Health IT Hall of Fame.
Mr. Traficant holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Geneva College and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.
