Phentamene XT contains hidden drug ingredient
[5-5-2023] The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Phentamene XT, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on various websites and possibly in some retail stores.
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Phentamene XT contains undeclared DMAA, also known as 1,3-dimethylamylamine or methylhexanamine. The dietary supplement industry often refers to DMAA as “geranium extract.” Ingestion of DMAA can elevate blood pressure and could lead to cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, shortness of breath and tightening of the chest. Consumers who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a healthcare professional as soon as possible.
Healthcare professionals and consumers should report adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product to FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program:
- Complete and submit the report online at MedWatch Online Voluntary Reporting Form, or:
- Download and complete the form, then submit it via fax at 1-800-FDA-0178.
