FDA Posts Questions and Answers on Spice Safety

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is posting questions and answers about spice safety. The Q&A addresses spice sampling conducted at the retail level, which is still being analyzed, in addition to sampling FDA has previously conducted at import. The Q&A also addresses how the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act rules are expected to improve spice safety and discusses other spice-related activities.
FDA Deputy Commissioner for Global Regulatory Operations and Policy Howard Sklamberg will speak about FSMA and the agency’s efforts to improve the safety of spices at the World Spice Congress in India on Saturday, February 27. The World Spice Congress, organized by the Spices Board of India, is a global platform for discussion and interaction among importers, exporters, regulators and other stakeholders of the spice industry.
