FDA provides many educational opportunities such as:

•    Learning Portal for Students, Academia and Industry
•    The FDA Grand Rounds
•    The FDA Science Forum

FDA sponsors mentored Internship and Fellowship programs that offer hands-on experience to learn about FDA’s regulatory review and research activities.  For example, FDA Human Foods Program (HFP) sponsors the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN) internship in collaboration with the University of Maryland. HFP also participates in the Department of Education’s (DOE). This program allows HFP to offer paid summer internships to minority students in the area of STEM for 10 weeks. Students are able to gain valuable experience and at the same time assist HFP with many of its missions and goals.

Additionally, every year FDA sponsors a number of students who compete research projects that are presented in August at the Annual Summer Student Scientific Poster Day

FDA also sponsors education opportunities that students attend. In FY 24, FDA Office of the Chief Scientist had 55 participants from Minority Serving Institutions attend FDA Grand Rounds that is offered to the public.

FDA also participates in the White House Office of Science and Technology’s STEM Education Initiatives like the development of the 2024 Federal Strategic Plan for Advancing STEM Education and Cultivating STEM Talent
