FDA Releases Refreshed IT Operating Plan to Drive Innovation and Global Collaboration

IT Operating Plan
FDA Information Technology Operating Plan

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has unveiled its refreshed IT Operating Plan, a key component of the FDA IT Strategy for FY 2024 – FY 2027. This updated plan outlines the agency's approach to advancing technology modernization, optimizing resources, and fostering global collaboration to protect public health.

Key updates include a detailed IT roadmap and enhanced governance frameworks to support decision-making and resource alignment. The plan also focuses on strengthening international partnerships, leveraging emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), improving data sharing, and bolstering cybersecurity.

Developed through a collaborative effort with the Office of Digital Transformation, FDA Centers, Offices, and external stakeholders—including workshops, listening sessions, and a Federal Register Notice—the refreshed Operating Plan reflects input from across the agency. The FDA is committed to ongoing internal and external stakeholder engagement and will refresh this plan annually to ensure continued innovation and adaptability.
